Position summary
KSQ Therapeutics is seeking an exceptional, innovative and highly motivated Director of Computational Chemistry & Drug Design to apply fundamentals of computational chemistry sciences toward the identification, design and optimization of drug candidates. This person will influence the company’s emerging NCE drug design organization and contribute to building a strong portfolio of novel drug candidates. As part of a team of outstanding scientists at KSQ, this individual will have the responsibility for developing and implementing a strategy encompassing all aspects of cheminformatics, structure-base and ligand-based drug design, analysis of large biological data set from high-throughput screens, designing and optimizing the composition of KSQ small molecule libraries as well as developing computational tools and solutions as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to work in close collaboration with all disciplines contributing to drug design, including biochemists, structural biologist and medicinal chemists both internally at KSQ as well as in collaboration with CRO partners. As part of a lead progression team, this individual will impact hit validation decisions and lead optimization strategies to deliver drug candidates that benefit patients’ lives. The successful individual will join a dynamic, enthusiastic, interdisciplinary, and collaborative team of scientists.

Key Qualifications:
  • PhD in computational chemistry with 10+ years of small molecule drug discovery experience with a focus on in the field of small molecule drug design.
  • Broad expertise and a track record of success enabling drug discovery programs from lead generation through lead optimization and into clinical development.
  • Extensive experience implementing and leveraging a wide range of computational methods applied to lead optimization and more broadly to drug design.
  • Demonstrated ability to impact drug design efforts through application of virtual screens, HTS data analyses and hit expansion, structure-based and ligand-based designs as well as development of in silico predictive methods.
  • A track record of communicating scientific concepts and strategies effectively, including a publication record in top-tier, peer reviewed journals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work within a project team setting, across functions, and within academic or industry collaborations as well as with CRO partners.
  • Ability to independently solve problems, to think critically and creatively as part of a fast-paced research team.
  • Commitment to quality, attention to detail, and team player mentality is a must.
  • Responsible and accountable for developing and implementing an in silico drug design strategy encompassing all aspects of cheminformatics, structure-based and ligand-based methods, analysis of large biological assay data sets, optimizing the composition of KSQ small molecule screening libraries as well as developing novel computational tools and solutions that will enable KSQ’s drug design efforts.
  • Contribute scientifically and strategically at both the drug design team and drug portfolio levels.
  • Must be able to travel periodically, including internationally, to develop and foster collaborations with CRO partners.
  • Develop and deliver scientific reports and presentations internally or externally as needed.
  • Function in a scientific leadership role as part of an interdisciplinary team contributing to the successful advancement of our research activities, project goals and company milestones.
  • Participate in various aspects of this new fast-pace company from building out the capabilities, contributing intellectually and generating data in a fast and efficient manner.
