Aula Laudis Honor Society for Distinguished Contributions to Chemistry Education
The Aula Laudis Honor Society of the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society is, as its name indicates, the Hall of Fame of high school teachers within NESACS, who have made distinguished contributions to chemistry education. Election to membership in Aula Laudis is a recognition of long-term overall excellence in the teaching of chemistry, and is based on criteria that involve the totality of an individual’s participation in, and contribution to, the teaching profession. The evaluation of nominees is based on their students’ performance in chemistry competitions, past recognition that honor their teaching, involvement in their students’ extra-curricular activities in chemistry, and enthusiastic feedback from past students and colleagues. The inductee must be a current or retired instructor of chemistry at a secondary school. Only a limited number of teachers within NESACS are chosen each year for this prestigious award.
Selection Process
The NESACS chooses inductees based on a series of criteria to honor and award success in the chemistry teaching profession. Quantitatively, the NESACS evaluates based on student performance in chemistry competitions, awards given to the teacher to honor his or her teaching, involvement in student chemistry extra-curricular activities, positive feedback from past students and colleagues, and a series of other qualifications.
The inductee must be a current or retired instructor of chemistry and he or she must teach at a secondary school. Up to four teachers in the Northeast Region are chosen each year for the prestigious award.
Election to membership in Aula Laudis is a recognition of excellence in the teaching of chemistry at the secondary school level. This recognition is based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that involve the totality of an individual’s participation in and contribution to the teaching profession. In addition, NESACS also uses success of alumni as a credential for this honor.
Call For Nominations deadline for the 2023 Aula Laudis membership is Saturday, May 1, 2023. Please fill out the nomination form and send to Steve Lantos (steve_lantos@psbma.org) by the May 1st deadline. The selected teacher(s) will be officially honored and will receive a plaque of recognition.
