Business Development Manager, Analytical Instruments

The JEOL legacy has been one of outstanding innovation in developing instruments used to advance scientific research and technology. JEOL has 70 years of expertise in the field of electron microscopy, more than 60 years in mass spectrometry and NMR spectrometry, and more than 50 years of e-beam lithography leadership. JEOL USA, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of JEOL Ltd. Japan, was incorporated in the United States in 1962. The primary business of JEOL USA is sales of new instruments and peripherals and support of a vast installed base of instruments throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

Business Development Manager – Mass Spectrometry / NMR Products

In this newly created position, you will drive revenue growth by identifying new market segments suited for JEOL’s analytical instrument product lines and create marketing plans/ and sales strategies to establish JEOL as a market leader in both Mass Spectrometers (MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) markets.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop executable strategies to identify potential new markets and business opportunities, increase market share, and achieve a competitive position in the industry
  • Lead initiatives to engage with business partners to build new business for the company
  • Identify the customer’s value chain, critical success factors, and key initiatives on which our business plan and sales strategies are developed
  • Leverage professional networking to generate and develop leads and identify quality bid opportunities
  • Engage key opinion leaders in the field understanding current segmentation of the mass spectrometer and NMR market
  • Provide guidance and direction to sales team; identify opportunities, nurture leads as necessary and interpret lost opportunity information by region and salesperson
  • Analyze relevant input and intelligence to flow forward into the strategic planning process
  • Work closely with product team to communicate market needs and provide updates on the competitive landscape
  • Create and manage collateral, including application notes and oral presentations, and ensure team members are aware and can easily access collaterals as needed
  • Develops and routinely evaluates territory sales performance in partnership with the National Sales Director; prepares summary manager reports as requested
  • Assists other departments within organization to prepare manuals and technical publications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Analytical Chemistry
  • A minimum of three years of business development experience with a scientific instrument or capital equipment company; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with solution and value selling techniques
  • 50% domestic and international travel
  • A valid driver’s license, safe driving record, passport, and Covid-19 vaccination required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
