Job Overview:
Accomplished synthetic organic and medicinal chemist with fundamental knowledge of medicinal chemistry principals and good track record of project impact as a key contributor.

  • Design and synthesize small molecule targets to drive programs to clinical candidate nomination.
  • Use reaction and reagent databases to select effective techniques/routes to maximize productivity and provide solutions to complex multi-step synthetic problems.
  • Prepare and characterize high purity target compounds and intermediates to meet aggressive project timelines.
  • Proficient in the use of analytical techniques for structural characterization and able to interpret simple to moderately complex NMR spectra.
  • Register compounds in corporate database and maintain notebooks according to SOP.
  • Champion new chemistry techniques, reagents and methodology in discovery chemistry and participate in group/lab responsibilities.
  • Fully understand SAR around the own work and the project and able to prioritize work based on emerging data.
  • Work independently and collaborate with other team members to design target compounds which address issues.
  • Interpret biological data (DMPK, pharmacology, safety) to identify issues and work independently to design target compounds to resolve issues.
  • Ability to learn from the literature and meetings to solve problems.
  • Understand and articulate the scientific rationale of the project to other scientists.
  • Determine the relevance of patent search results and assess the patentability of new targets.
  • Actively participate in medicinal chemistry discussions communicating own science in a clear and precise manner and raising issues which positively influence direction of lead series.
  • Communicate and interact with other staff members in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Operate in the lab in a safe and efficient manner according to HSE guidelines and adhere to all mandatory company compliance requirements.
  • Adapt to changes and challenges in a productive and professional manner.
  • Act as an ambassador for the department and attend appropriate meetings to increase knowledge and stay current with the journal and patent literature.
Requirements & Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 6 years of relevant experience in a biopharmaceutical setting or Master’s Degree with minimum 3 years of experience in a biopharmaceutical setting.
    • Recognized as a technical expert with growing scientific and subject matter expertise and innovative contributions.
    • Emerging track record as a contributor providing quality science that forms the basis for publications, presentations and patents and involvement in professional society.
