Job Overview:

Accomplished synthetic organic and medicinal chemist with excellent track record of project impact as a project leader/key contributor.

  • Design and synthesize small molecule targets to drive programs to clinical candidate nomination.
  • Mentor and lead projects while managing internal and external chemistry resources.
  • Organize, chair and document minutes for project meetings.
  • Generate monthly project highlights which summarize progress, identify issues and outline plans.
  • Review patent literature and assist with filing patent applications by making sure that scope and claims are drafted properly to protect chemical matter.
  • Understand and describe the scientific rationale of multiple project areas and challenge assumptions and interpretations of data.
  • Act as a scientific resource across different disease areas and for due diligence.
  • Identify and develop scientific strategies to support midterm goals and set direction for group.
  • Supervise junior staff by coaching and sharing suggestions to help them overcome synthetic difficulties and project challenges.
  • Guide direct reports through professional growth and career development discussions.
  • Communicate effectively with therapeutic disease areas and support platforms (e.g. DMPK, safety, CMC).
  • Network within the department and across sites to discuss medicinal and synthetic chemistry issues and project progression.
  • Analyze, interpret and present results and well-reasoned cases for resource needs to senior management.
  • Contribute at core group level to multidisciplinary teams and consistently represent department/group.
Requirements & Qualifications:
    • PhD with minimum 10 years of relevant research experience in a biopharmaceutical setting.
    • Expertise in 'de novo' synthetic design featuring a high level of judgement in selecting routes and reagents.
    • Track record of scientific publications, presentations and patents as a contributor or senior author.
    • Growing reputation in the external scientific community through high impact publications, scientific collaborations, active participation in conferences and involvement in professional society.
