Our Mission
To increase and retain membership in the American Chemical Society in the geographical area defined by the Society as the Northeastern Section. To welcome new members to NESACS and to provide engaging and beneficial opportunities to all NESACS members.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Membership Committee is constantly seeking new and innovative ways to recruit, retain and engage NESACS members. Please contact the committee chair, Brian D’Amico (brianjdamico@gmail.com), if you would like to join the Membership Committee, or if you have suggestions or ideas to support our mission.
Who We Are
Ad Hoc Members
Members and Affiliates
NESACS membership consists of Full Members, Student Members, Local Society Affiliates and Local Section Affiliates, in line with ACS membership.
Full Members
Members of the American Chemical Society (ACS) who reside within the boundaries of the Northeastern Section (NESACS) are automatically members of the Local Section. A member of the ACS who prefers membership in a Local Section other than that of residence may, upon written request to the Executive Director of the ACS, be assigned to that Local Section. Local Section dues are voluntary for ACS members. Members who elect to pay the Local Section dues, may do so on their annual ACS renewal forms. Members have the right to vote, to hold an office within the Section, and to hold an elective position.
Local Student Members (Undergraduates and Graduates)
Undergraduate Student and Graduate Student Members of the ACS are automatically members of NESACS if the student’s primary residence is within the boundaries of NESACS. A Student Member is entitled to all privileges of membership, except that of holding an elective position in the ACS or in the Local Section. A Student Member may serve as a committee chair.
Local Society Affiliates/Non-Scientists
ACS Affiliates are persons whose major vocational effort is directly concerned with the practice of a chemical science but who do not meet the requirements to be a Full Member of the ACS. Society Affiliates who reside within the boundaries of NESACS are automatically Society Affiliate members of NESACS. In accordance with NESACS bylaws, a Society Affiliate may serve as a committee chair but may neither hold an elective position nor vote in NESACS elections.
Local Section Affiliates
Local Section Affiliates, as authorized in the Standing Rules of the ACS, and who reside in the territory of NESACS, may obtain NESACS Local Section Affiliate status. Local Section Affiliates pay annual dues of $20. A Local Section Affiliate may serve as a committee chair but may neither hold an elective position nor vote in NESACS elections. To apply for Local Section Affiliate membership, please contact the NESACS Administrative Coordinator at secretary@nesacs.org.
